द्विर् अनुव्याहृते राज्ञः स शापो बलवान् अभूत् ॥
रक्षोबलसमाविष्टो विसंज्ञश् चाभवत् तदा ॥
ततः स नृपतिश्रेष्ठो राक्षसोपहतेन्द्रियः ॥
उवाच शक्तिं तं दृष्ट्वा नचिराद् इव भारत ॥

रक्षोबलसमाविष्टः विसंज्ञः च अभवत् तदाrakṣobalasamāviṣṭaḥ visaṃjñaḥ ca abhavat tadāand, possessed by the demon's strength, he lost his senses then;
ततः सः नृपतिश्रेष्ठः राक्षसोपहतेन्द्रियःtataḥ saḥ nṛpatiśreṣṭhaḥ rākṣasopahatendriyaḥthen that best of kings, his faculties struck down by the demon,

अनुवाद
"Twice pronounced, that curse became powerful upon the king, and, possessed by the demon's strength, he lost his senses then. Then that best of kings, his faculties struck down by the demon, seeing Shakti soon after that, said, O Bharata".

Here the two curses, merging, strip the king of what reason remained. It is telling that a word "twice pronounced" gains redoubled force: repeated from different mouths, it becomes irresistible. Here is shown the fearsome power of a curse's word, which grows with repetition. So the scripture shows that a chain of hasty curses, laid down in anger, plunges a man into utter darkness; and the king, who until now had struggled, is now wholly in the grip of evil.
