Here a jesting remark turns into an unwitting prophecy. It is telling that the brahmins, in jest, suppose that Draupadi will choose one of these young men -- not knowing that so it will indeed come to pass. Providence speaks even through those who do not know it: a chance word turns out to be a foretelling. It is also telling that Bhima's strength in wrestling is mentioned -- and this too will come true. So the scripture shows that destiny glimmers even in the jest of wanderers; and the words spoken idly about the beauty and strength of the Pandavas are a veiled announcement of their coming triumph.
