चेलावेधांस् ततश् चक्रुर् हाहाकारांश् च सर्वशः ॥
न्यपतंश् चात्र नभसः समन्तात् पुष्पवृष्टयः ॥
tato 'ntarikṣe ca babhūva nādaḥ; samājamadhye ca mahān ninādaḥ ||
puṣpāṇi divyāni vavarṣa devaḥ; pārthasya mūrdhni dviṣatāṃ nihantuḥ ||
celāvedhāṃs tataś cakrur hāhākārāṃś ca sarvaśaḥ ||
nyapataṃś cātra nabhasaḥ samantāt puṣpavṛṣṭayaḥ ||
"Then a rumble arose in the sky, and a great roar in the midst of the assembly; the god Indra rained divine flowers upon the head of Partha, slayer of foes. People waved their garments and raised cries of 'ha-ha!' from every side, and showers of flowers fell everywhere from the sky."

Here heaven crowns the feat with a shower of flowers. It is significant that Indra himself pours down the flowers upon the head of Partha, his own son: the heavenly father blesses his son's triumph. Here it is shown that a worthy deed wins approval from above: where the righteous triumph, the heavens too rejoice. Thus the scripture shows heaven's assent to the earthly victory; and the shower of flowers upon Arjuna's head is the seal of the gods' favor.
