किं वो भयं मानुषेभ्यो यूयं सर्वे यदामराः ॥
मा वो मर्त्यसकाशाद् वै भयं भवतु कर्हि चित् ॥

Here Brahma marvels at the fear of the immortals before mortals. His words are telling: the immortal ought not fear the mortal -- yet the gods fear not destruction, but the loss of distinction. Here it is shown that even a high position does not free one from anxiety while order is disturbed. Thus scripture shows Brahma's puzzlement; and the gods' answer will disclose the true nature of their fear.
