न चोक्तवन्ताव् अश्रेयः पुरस्ताद् अपि किं चन ॥
न चाप्य् अपकृतं किं चिद् अनयोर् लक्ष्यते त्वयि ॥
ताव् इमौ पुरुषव्याघ्राव् अनागसि नृप त्वयि ॥
न मन्त्रयेतां त्वच् छ्रेयः कथं सत्यपराक्रमौ ॥

अनुवाद
"And they had never before spoken anything unkind, nor is any wrong of these two toward you observed; these two tigers among men, toward you who are blameless, O king -- how could they fail to counsel your good, they whose valor is truth?"

Here the truthfulness of the past vouches for the truthfulness of the counsel. It is telling that Vidura recalls: these two have never harmed the king -- and so they wish him good now as well. Herein lies the law by which trust is earned through the constancy of a righteous life: 'valor is truth' is the highest guarantee. Thus the text reveals the order of trust; and one who has always been truthful deserves to be believed now as well.
