Here Vidura repeats his grim prophecy of ruin. Telling is his phrase "once virtuous" — a hint that the king has fallen from his former righteousness by indulging his son. Here is the sorrow of the righteous man, clearly foreseeing the devastation that unchecked adharma will bring. Thus the verse presents Vidura's repeated warning, and, rejected, it becomes the sentence fulfilled on Kurukshetra.
