श्रुत्वा च जीवतः पार्थान् पौरजानपदो जनः ॥
बलवद् दर्शने गृध्नुस् तेषां राजन् कुरु प्रियम् ॥
दुर्योधनश् च कर्णश् च शकुनिश् चापि सौबलः ॥
अधर्मयुक्ता दुष्प्रज्ञा बाला मैषां वचः कृथाः ॥

अनुवाद
"And, hearing that the Parthas live, the people of town and country long fiercely to see them; O king, grant them this joy. Duryodhana, and Karna, and Shakuni, son of Subala, bound to adharma, of wicked mind, like children — do not act on their word."

Here the will of the people and the voice of dharma stand together against evil counsel. It is telling that Vidura points to the people's love for the Pandavas: a righteous ruler heeds the heart of his subjects. Telling too is his direct naming of Duryodhana, Karna, and Shakuni as "bound to adharma" — their counsel is called by the name of its vice. The verse shows that to heed the wicked is to ruin both oneself and the people. Thus it presents two counsels set against each other, and Vidura calls the king to reject the word of the unrighteous.
