अन्वारुरोह चाप्य् एनं प्रेम्णा राजा युधिष्ठिरः ॥
अपास्य चास्य यन्तारं दारुकं यन्तृसत्तमम् ॥
अभीषून् संप्रजग्राह स्वयं कुरुपतिस् तदा ॥

अनुवाद
Vaishampayana said: "And out of love King Yudhishthira climbed up after him [onto the chariot]; and, setting aside his charioteer Daruka, the best of charioteers, the lord of the Kurus then took the reins himself."

Here the righteous king himself becomes the Lord's charioteer. It is significant that Yudhishthira, lord of men, sets aside his royal majesty and takes up Krishna's reins: the highest honor is not to command but to serve God. This foreshadows what will come to pass in the great battle, where Krishna Himself will become Arjuna's charioteer — service between the Lord and His devotee runs both ways. Thus scripture shows the humility of the righteous king; and Arjuna now fans Him with a whisk.
