वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् उक्त्वा जरासंधः सहदेवाभिषेचनम् ॥
आज्ञापयत् तदा राजा युयुत्सुर् भीमकर्मभिः ॥
स तु सेनापती राजा सस्मार भरतर्षभ ॥
कौशिकं चित्रसेनं च तस्मिन् युद्ध उपस्थिते ॥
ययोस् ते नामनी लोके हंसेति डिभकेति च ॥
पूर्वं संकथिते पुम्भिर् नृलोके लोकसत्कृते ॥

ājñāpayat tadā rājā yuyutsur bhīmakarmabhiḥ ||
sa tu senāpatī rājā sasmāra bharatarṣabha ||
kauśikaṃ citrasenaṃ ca tasmin yuddha upasthite ||
yayos te nāmanī loke haṃseti ḍibhaketi ca ||
pūrvaṃ saṃkathite pumbhir nṛloke lokasatkṛte ||

सहदेव-अभिषेचनम्sahadeva-abhiṣecanamthe anointing of [his son] Sahadeva
आज्ञापयत् तदा राजाājñāpayat tadā rājāthen commanded, the king,
युयुत्सुः भीम-कर्मभिःyuyutsuḥ bhīma-karmabhiḥeager for battle with [men] of terrible deeds;
सः तु सेना-पती राजाsaḥ tu senā-patī rājāand that king, two commanders
सस्मार भरत-ऋषभsasmāra bharata-ṛṣabharemembered, O bull of the Bharatas —
कौशिकम् चित्रसेनम् चkauśikam citrasenam caKaushika and Chitrasena —
तस्मिन् युद्धे उपस्थितेtasmin yuddhe upasthite[when] that battle had arrived;
ययोः ते नामनी लोकेyayoḥ te nāmanī lokewhose two names in the world,
हंस इति डिभक इति चhaṃsa iti ḍibhaka iti ca"Hamsa" and "Dibhaka",
पूर्वम् संकथिते पुम्भिःpūrvam saṃkathite pumbhiḥformerly recalled by people,
नृ-लोके लोक-सत्कृतेnṛ-loke loka-satkṛtein the world of men, honored [by the world];

अनुवाद

Vaishampayana said: "Having spoken thus, king Jarasandha, eager for battle with these men of terrible deeds, ordered the consecration of [his son] Sahadeva [as heir]; and that king, when the battle had arrived, remembered his two commanders — Kaushika and Chitrasena, O bull of the Bharatas — whose two names in the world, 'Hamsa' and 'Dibhaka', had formerly been recalled by people and honored in the world of men."
