अनुवाद
Jarasandha said: “I do not recall that you have ever done me any wrong; and, reflecting, I see no wrong of mine against you. If there is no wrong, how can you think me, who am blameless, an enemy? Tell me plainly, then, O brahmins, for such is the custom of the good.”

Here the tyrant considers himself blameless, for he has done no wrong specifically to those who have come. It is telling that the wrongdoer measures guilt only by offense to himself, not by the suffering he causes others: selfishness narrows conscience down to personal accounts. Thus scripture shows the blindness of one who sees no evil in evil at large; what follows speaks of the harm in attacking the blameless.
