निकृत्या भ्रंशिता राज्याज् जनार्हा निर्जनं गताः ॥
विनीतक्रोधहर्षाश् च ब्रह्मण्याः सत्यवादिनः ॥
त्यक्त्वा प्रियसुखे पार्था रुदन्तीम् अपहाय माम् ॥
अहार्षुश् च वनं यान्तः समूलं हृदयं मम ॥
अतदर्हा महात्मानः कथं केशव पाण्डवाः ॥
ऊषुर् महावने तात सिंहव्याघ्रगजाकुले ॥
बाला विहीनाः पित्रा ते मया सततलालिताः ॥
अपश्यन्तः स्वपितरौ कथम् ऊषुर् महावने ॥
शङ्खदुन्दुभिनिर्घोषैर् मृदङ्गैर् वैणवैर् अपि ॥
पाण्डवाः समबोध्यन्त बाल्यात् प्रभृति केशव ॥
nikṛtyā bhraṃśitā rājyāj janārhā nirjanaṃ gatāḥ ||
vinītakrodhaharṣāś ca brahmaṇyāḥ satyavādinaḥ ||
tyaktvā priyasukhe pārthā rudantīm apahāya mām ||
ahārṣuś ca vanaṃ yāntaḥ samūlaṃ hṛdayaṃ mama ||
atadarhā mahātmānaḥ kathaṃ keśava pāṇḍavāḥ ||
ūṣur mahāvane tāta siṃhavyāghragajākule ||
bālā vihīnāḥ pitrā te mayā satatalālitāḥ ||
apaśyantaḥ svapitarau katham ūṣur mahāvane ||
śaṅkhadundubhinirghoṣair mṛdaṅgair vaiṇavair api ||
pāṇḍavāḥ samabodhyanta bālyāt prabhṛti keśava ||
All the various riches, O greatest of kings, that are proposed to be given to Janardana should never be given to him. Keshava is certainly not unworthy of our worship, but the time and place are against it, for he -- Krishna, O king -- upon receiving our worship, will very likely think that we worship him out of fear.
