अद्य तं पापकर्माणं क्षुद्रं सौभद्रघातिनम् ॥
अपुनर्दर्शनं मार्गम् इषुभिः क्षेप्स्यते ऽर्जुनः ॥

अनुवाद
"And I will bring it about that Arjuna, the son of Kunti, burns the armies of Dhritarashtra's son like a rising fire. This day, that evildoer, the vile slayer of Subhadra's son, Arjuna will send with his arrows onto the road of no return."

Krishna answers the prayer with an act, not a word of comfort: "ahaṃ ca tat kariṣyāmi", "and I will do that." It is significant that the Lord speaks of His own part in Arjuna's victory: the devotee acts, but God acts through him -- "yathā... arjunaḥ dhakṣyati", "so that Arjuna burns." Retribution for the evildoer is spoken of as already accomplished. The verse teaches that the devotee's prayer meets not empty consolation but a promise of action: the Lord Himself undertakes to shape the outcome; and the victory of the faithful is a joint work -- his valor and God's will, inseparably joined.
