स ताभ्यां सहितः पार्थो रथप्रवरम् आस्थितः ॥
सहितो बुधशुक्राभ्यां तमो निघ्नन् यथा शशी ॥
सैन्धवस्य वधप्रेप्सुः प्रयातः शत्रुपूगहा ॥
सहाम्बुपतिमित्राभ्यां यथेन्द्रस् तारकामये ॥

अनुवाद
He, Partha, together with those two, having mounted the finest chariot, [shone] like the moon together with Budha and Shukra, dispelling darkness. Longing to kill the Sindhu king, the destroyer of hosts of foes went forth — with his two comrades, like Indra in the war of Taraka.

Celestial images: Arjuna between Krishna and Satyaki — "budhaśukrābhyāṃ… śaśī", like the moon between Budha and Shukra (Mercury and Venus), "tamaḥ nighnan", dispelling darkness. It is telling that setting out for battle is likened to the rising of a light that drives away the gloom: his task is not slaughter but the banishing of the darkness of lawlessness. The comparison with Indra in the war of Taraka once more places the battle among the victories of light over darkness. The verse teaches that righteous warfare is in essence the dispersal of gloom: the warrior of righteousness goes forth like a luminary chasing away the night, and his victory is the triumph of light over untruth.
