दृष्ट्वार्जुनो निमित्तानि विजयाय प्रदक्षिणम् ॥
युयुधानं महेष्वासम् इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
युयुधानाद्य युद्धे मे दृश्यते विजयो ध्रुवः ॥
यथा हीमानि लिङ्गानि दृश्यन्ते शिनिपुंगव ॥

Having seen the omens favorable for victory, Arjuna spoke this word to Yuyudhana, the great archer: "Yuyudhana, today my victory in battle appears certain — for such, as they show themselves, are these signs, O bull of the Shinis."

Arjuna reads the omens as the language of Providence: "yathā hi imāni liṅgāni dṛśyante… vijayaḥ dhruvaḥ" — by how the signs appear, victory is certain. His confidence rests not on self-regard but on the concord of signs, on the witness of higher powers. The ancient science of omens here is a reading of the will from above. The verse teaches that one who sees clearly knows how to read signs of grace and draw from them not pride but quiet assurance: a victory foretold by nature and by omens is received as a gift, and the warrior enters battle not presumptuously, but trusting the will that has been revealed.
