तपनीयविचित्राणि सिक्तानि रुधिरेण च ॥
अदृश्यन्त यथा राजन् मेघसंघाः सविद्युतः ॥
शिरसां पततां राजञ् शब्दो ऽभूत् पृथिवीतले ॥
कालेन परिपक्वानां तालानां पतताम् इव ॥

अनुवाद
Adorned with gold and sprinkled with blood, they appeared, O king, like clouds with lightning. There was a sound on the surface of the earth of falling heads, O king, like [the fruits] of palm trees, ripened in time, falling.

The image "kālena paripakvānāṃ tālānāṃ patatām iva", "like ripe palm fruits falling", is profound: the heads of the slain fall like fruit that has ripened by time. Kāla, Time, is both the season of ripening and the season of death. It is telling that death here is shown not merely as violence but as a harvest that Time has brought to fullness. The verse teaches us to see in death the working of Time-Kāla: the fallen are like fruits ripened by time; and behind the warrior's hand acts Time itself, gathering its harvest -- which reconciles the horror with the law of the universe.
