देवनागरी
अथान्यद् धनुर् आदाय हार्दिक्यः क्रोधमूर्छितः ॥
कृत्वा विधनुषौ वीरौ शरवर्षैर् अवाकिरत् ॥
ताव् अन्ये धनुषी सज्ये कृत्वा भोजं विजघ्नतुः ॥
तेनान्तरेण बीभत्सुर् विवेशामित्रवाहिनीम् ॥

अनुवाद
Then, taking up another bow, the son of Hridika, maddened with rage, stripped the two heroes of their bows and covered them with showers of arrows. But those two, having strung two other bows, beat back Bhoja; and in that interval Bibhatsu entered the enemy's army.

The sacrifice of the companions bears fruit: while the guardians hold Kritavarman, "tena antareṇa bībhatsuḥ viveśa", "in that interval Bibhatsu entered" the enemy's host. Their steadfastness opens the way for Arjuna. It is telling that the hero's breakthrough is purchased by the persistence of the faithful. The verse teaches that a great feat rests on the unheralded loyalty of many: while the chief presses toward his goal, his companions win, at the cost of their own effort, that very "interval"; and the victory of one is the fruit of the self-giving of those who held back the enemy so that he might pass.
