संजय उवाच
संनिरुद्धस् तु तैः पार्थो महाबलपराक्रमः ॥
द्रुतं समनुयातश् च द्रोणेन रथिनां वरः ॥
किरन्न् इषुगणांस् तिक्ष्णान् स्वरश्मीन् इव भास्करः ॥
तापयाम् आस तत् सैन्यं देहं व्याधिगणो यथा ॥

Held back by them, Pritha's son, of great strength and valor, and swiftly pursued by Drona, best of charioteers, scattering sharp swarms of arrows as the sun scatters its own rays, scorched that army, as a host of diseases scorches a body.

The image "svaraśmīn iva bhāskaraḥ," "as the sun its own rays," again reveals Arjuna as a luminary and his arrows as its rays. Yet the enemy host he scorches "as diseases scorch a body": for the unrighteous his light is the fever of illness. Telling is the double likeness: the same light quickens and burns, depending on whose side one stands. The verse teaches that one who carries out God's will is like the sun: for those who hold to truth, light; for the unrighteous, searing heat. The same radiance, according to the state of the one receiving it, is either a blessing or a scorching fire.
