ततो द्रोणस्य दाशार्हः शरांश् चिच्छेद संयुगे ॥
पत्रिभिः सुदृढैर् आशु धनुश् चैव महाद्युते ॥
निमेषान्तरमात्रेण भारद्वाजो ऽपरं धनुः ॥
सज्यं चकार तच् चाशु चिच्छेदास्य स सात्यकिः ॥
ततस् त्वरन् पुनर् द्रोणो धनुर्हस्तो व्यतिष्ठत ॥
सज्यं सज्यं पुनश् चास्य चिच्छेद निशितैः शरैः ॥
tato droṇasya dāśārhaḥ śarāṃś ciccheda saṃyuge ||
patribhiḥ sudṛḍhair āśu dhanuś caiva mahādyute ||
nimeṣāntaramātreṇa bhāradvājo 'paraṃ dhanuḥ ||
sajyaṃ cakāra tac cāśu cicchedāsya sa sātyakiḥ ||
tatas tvaran punar droṇo dhanurhasto vyatiṣṭhata ||
sajyaṃ sajyaṃ punaś cāsya ciccheda niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
Then Dasharha [Satyaki] cut Drona's arrows in battle with feathered, sturdy shafts, swiftly, and the bow too, O most radiant one. In but the blink of an eye the son of Bharadvaja strung another bow, and that too Satyaki swiftly cut. Then, hastening, Drona again stood with bow in hand, but each time it was strung, Satyaki cut it again with sharp arrows.

Satyaki cuts bow after bow, the moment Drona strings them: the disciple of Arjuna does not yield to the master. It is telling that a Vrishni, not of the house of Kuru, shows skill equal to the greatest of brahmin-warriors. The verse teaches that mastery is not inherited by birth but won by labor and devotion: Satyaki, no offspring of Drona, has surpassed many in training. Valor lies open to every diligent soul, not only to those born into glory -- for the fruit is granted to effort, not to origin.
