तौ तत्र समतिक्रान्तौ दृष्ट्वाभीतौ तरस्विनौ ॥
सिन्धुराजं च संप्रेक्ष्य गाण्डीवस्येषुगोचरे ॥
किं तदा कुरवः कृत्यं विदधुः कालचोदिताः ॥
दारुणैकायने काले कथं वा प्रतिपेदिरे ॥
ग्रस्तान् हि कौरवान् मन्ये मृत्युना तात संगतान् ॥
विक्रमो हि रणे तेषां न तथा दृश्यते ऽद्य वै ॥

tau tatra samatikrāntau dṛṣṭvābhītau tarasvinau ||
sindhurājaṃ ca saṃprekṣya gāṇḍīvasyeṣugocare ||
kiṃ tadā kuravaḥ kṛtyaṃ vidadhuḥ kālacoditāḥ ||
dāruṇaikāyane kāle kathaṃ vā pratipedire ||
grastān hi kauravān manye mṛtyunā tāta saṃgatān ||
vikramo hi raṇe teṣāṃ na tathā dṛśyate 'dya vai ||

सिन्धुराजम् च संप्रेक्ष्यsindhurājam ca saṃprekṣyaand having looked upon the king of Sindhu; and having caught sight of the king of Sindhu
गाण्डीवस्य इषुगोचरेgāṇḍīvasya iṣugocarewithin the range of Gandiva's arrows; within reach of the arrows of Gandiva
किम् तदा कुरवः कृत्यम्kim tadā kuravaḥ kṛtyamwhat deed then did the Kurus; what then did the Kurus, what deed
विदधुः कालचोदिताःvidadhuḥ kālacoditāḥundertake, driven by time; undertake, driven by fate
दारुणैकायने कालेdāruṇaikāyane kālein that dreadful, hopeless hour; in that terrible, inescapable hour

ग्रस्तान् हि कौरवान् मन्येgrastān hi kauravān manyefor I deem the Kauravas already seized; indeed I deem the Kauravas seized

विक्रमः हि रणे तेषाम्vikramaḥ hi raṇe teṣāmfor their valor in battle; indeed their valor in the fight
न तथा दृश्यते अद्य वैna tathā dṛśyate adya vaiis not seen the same now; is not seen as such now
अनुवाद

Those two, having passed through there, fearless and swift, and having looked upon the king of Sindhu already within the range of Gandiva's arrows — what then did the Kurus, driven by time, undertake, or how did they conduct themselves in that dreadful, hopeless hour? For I deem the Kauravas already seized, fallen in with death, O dear one, since their valor in battle is not seen the same now.
