रक्ष्यते यश् च संग्रामे ये च संजय रक्षिणः ॥
एकः साधारणः पन्था रक्ष्यस्य सह रक्षिभिः ॥

पुत्रो मम भृशं मूढः किं कार्यं प्रत्यपद्यत ॥
सात्यकिं च रणे दृष्ट्वा प्रविशन्तम् अभीतवत् ॥
किं नु दुर्योधनः कृत्यं प्राप्तकालम् अमन्यत ॥
rakṣyate yaś ca saṃgrāme ye ca saṃjaya rakṣiṇaḥ ||
ekaḥ sādhāraṇaḥ panthā rakṣyasya saha rakṣibhiḥ ||
arjunaṃ samare dṛṣṭvā saindhavasyāgrataḥ sthitam ||
putro mama bhṛśaṃ mūḍhaḥ kiṃ kāryaṃ pratyapadyata ||
sātyakiṃ ca raṇe dṛṣṭvā praviśantam abhītavat ||
kiṃ nu duryodhanaḥ kṛtyaṃ prāptakālam amanyata ||
For the one who is guarded in battle, and those, Sanjaya, who are the guardians — the guarded one and the guardians share one common path. Having seen Arjuna in battle standing before the king of Sindhu, what deed did my son, greatly bewildered, undertake? And having seen Satyaki entering the battle fearlessly, what deed did Duryodhana then deem fitting?

"Ekaḥ sādhāraṇaḥ panthāḥ rakṣyasya saha rakṣibhiḥ" — the protected one and his guardians share one path: fate binds them together. If the protected falls, the guardians fall too, and vice versa. It is telling that this bond images a shared destiny. The verse teaches that the fates of those bound to a single cause are inseparable: the one who shields another shares his lot, and salvation or ruin comes to them together — and thus Jayadratha and his guardians walk one road toward one end.
