स्य तल् लावं दृष्ट्वा प्रसन् द्वित्तमः
प्रेयाम् विशिखान् ष्टौ संर्वणः
तान् दृष्ट्वा तः शीघ्रं द्रोचाच्युताञ् रान्
वायच् रैर् ताद्भिर् निशितैर् दृढैः
तो ऽवन् हारा सैन्यस्य विस्मयः
बृत्क्षत्रे तत् र्म कृतं दृष्ट्वा सुदुष्करम्

प्रेषयाम् आस विशिखान्preṣayām āsa viśikhānsent forth arrows; loosed arrows
अष्टौ संनतपर्वणःaṣṭau saṃnataparvaṇaḥeight smooth-jointed; eight with smooth joints
तान् दृष्ट्वा पततः शीघ्रम्tān dṛṣṭvā patataḥ śīghramseeing them, falling swiftly; seeing them, swiftly flying
द्रोणचापच्युतान् शरान्droṇacāpacyutān śarānarrows sped from Drona's bow; shafts loosed from Drona's bow
अवारयत् शरैः एवavārayat śaraiḥ evahe warded off with arrows alone; he repelled with arrows of his own
तावद्भिः निशितैः दृढैःtāvadbhiḥ niśitaiḥ dṛḍhaiḥas many, sharp, firm; an equal number, keen and strong
ततः अभवत् महाराजtataḥ abhavat mahārājathen arose, O great king; then came, O great king
तव सैन्यस्य विस्मयःtava sainyasya vismayaḥastonishment of your army; the amazement of your host
बृहत्क्षत्रेण तत् कर्मbṛhatkṣatreṇa tat karmaby Brihatkshatra, that deed; by Brihatkshatra, that feat
कृतम् दृष्ट्वा सुदुष्करम्kṛtam dṛṣṭvā suduṣkaramdone, seeing it, most difficult; seeing it accomplished, most arduous
अनुवाद

Seeing that dexterity of his, laughing, the best of the twice-born sent forth eight smooth-jointed arrows. Seeing those swiftly falling arrows sped from Drona's bow, he warded them off with an equal number of sharp, firm arrows of his own. Then arose, O great king, astonishment among your army, seeing that most difficult feat accomplished by Brihatkshatra.
