ततो द्रोणो महाराज केकयं वै विशेषयन् ॥
प्रादुश्चक्रे रणे दिव्यं ब्राह्मम् अस्त्रं महातपाः ॥
तद् अस्य राजन् कैकेयः प्रत्यवारयद् अच्युतः ॥
ब्राह्मेणैव महाबाहुर् आहवे समुदीरितम् ॥
प्रतिहन्य तद् अस्त्रं तु भारद्वाजस्य संयुगे ॥
विव्याध ब्राह्मणं षष्ट्या स्वर्णपुङ्खैः शिलाशितैः ॥
tato droṇo mahārāja kekayaṃ vai viśeṣayan ||
prāduścakre raṇe divyaṃ brāhmam astraṃ mahātapāḥ ||
tad asya rājan kaikeyaḥ pratyavārayad acyutaḥ ||
brāhmeṇaiva mahābāhur āhave samudīritam ||
pratihanya tad astraṃ tu bhāradvājasya saṃyuge ||
vivyādha brāhmaṇaṃ ṣaṣṭyā svarṇapuṅkhaiḥ śilāśitaiḥ ||
Then Drona, O great king, surpassing the Kekaya, brought forth in battle the divine weapon of Brahma, the great ascetic. That weapon of his, O king, the unwavering Kaikeya warded off with the weapon of Brahma itself, mighty-armed, raised in battle. Having countered that weapon of the son of Bharadvaja in the fight, he pierced the brahmin [Drona] with sixty gold-feathered arrows honed on stone.

Brihatkshatra repels Drona's brahma-weapon with an equal brahma-weapon: highest knowledge meets highest knowledge. It is telling that even the teacher's most terrible weapon does not catch a worthy foe unprepared. The verse teaches that against the highest power only equal knowledge can stand: where two who wield divine weapons meet, superiority is decided not by the weapon itself but by what is above it — the higher order and the span allotted to each.
