ततस् तु शरवर्षेण पार्थिवास् तम् अवारयन् ॥
धनूंषि ते विधुन्वानाः शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥
अयोधयन्त राधेयं शक्रं दैत्यगणा इव ॥
शरवर्षं तु तत् कर्णः पार्थिवैः समुदीरितम् ॥
शरवर्षेण महता समन्ताद् व्यकिरत् प्रभो ॥
तद् युद्धम् अभवत् तेषां कृतप्रतिकृतैषिणाम् ॥
यथा देवासुरे युद्धे शक्रस्य सह दानवैः ॥
तत्राद्भुतम् अपश्याम सूतपुत्रस्य लाघवम् ॥
यद् एनं समरे यत्ता नाप्नुवन्त परे युधि ॥

śaravarṣaṃ tu tat karṇaḥ pārthivaiḥ samudīritam ||
śaravarṣeṇa mahatā samantād vyakirat prabho ||
tad yuddham abhavat teṣāṃ kṛtapratikṛtaiṣiṇām ||
yathā devāsure yuddhe śakrasya saha dānavaiḥ ||
tatrādbhutam apaśyāma sūtaputrasya lāghavam ||
yad enaṃ samare yattā nāpnuvanta pare yudhi ||

अनुवाद

Then the kings held him back with a shower of arrows, brandishing their bows by the hundreds and thousands. That shower of arrows raised by the kings, Karna scattered with a great shower of arrows from every side, O lord. That battle of those who sought to repay deed for deed was like the battle of gods and asuras, of Shakra with the danavas. There we beheld a wonder — the dexterity of the charioteer's son: that however hard the enemies strove, they could not overtake him in battle.
