सः यः ह वै तत् परमं ब्रह्म वेद ब्रह्म एव भवति न अस्य अब्रह्मवित् कुले भवति ।
तरति शोकं तरति पाप्मानं गुहाग्रन्थिभ्यः विमुक्तः अमृतः भवति ॥

He who truly knows that supreme Brahman becomes Brahman himself; in his line no one is born who does not know Brahman. He crosses over grief, crosses over sin and, freed from the knots of the secret place [of the heart], becomes immortal.

The fruits of arrival — in four waves. sa yo ha vai tat paramaṁ brahma veda brahmaiva bhavati — "who knows the supreme Brahman becomes Brahman himself": becomes — in quality, as iron in fire is fiery: brahma-bhūta (Gītā 18.54), lit through and through by His light — not in the position of the Lord: red-hot iron does not begin to be the smith.
nāsyābrahmavit kule bhavati — "in his line no one is born who does not know Brahman": an astonishing promise: knowledge sanctifies the offspring: the knower's house is a nest of light, and to it fly souls ready for light (the Gītā 6.41–42 promises the yogī who has failed a birth "in a family of the wise" — such a family as this). Light is hereditary not by blood but by atmosphere.
tarati śokaṁ tarati pāpmānam — "he crosses over grief, crosses over sin" (√tṝ — a crossing: two rivers, unfordable, are behind him); guhā-granthibhyo vimukto 'mṛto bhavati — "freed from the knots of the secret place, he becomes immortal": the whole household vocabulary of the Muṇḍaka — guhā, granthi, amṛta — is gathered into a final knot: the knots that were tied in the cave of the heart are untied in the very place where they were tied — and death has nothing left by which to hold a man.
