तत् एतत् सत्यम् ऋषिः अङ्गिराः पुरोवाच न एतत् अचीर्णव्रतः अधीते ।

The last words of the Muṇḍaka. tad etat satyam — "this is the truth": the great turns of the book were opened with the same seal satyam (1.2.1, 2.1.1) — and with it the whole is closed: all that has been said is not a school's opinion but satya, actuality itself. ṛṣir aṅgirāḥ purovāca — "the seer Aṅgiras spoke of old": the ring is closed: with Aṅgiras, who received the chain from Brahmā (1.1.1–2), the Upaniṣad began — with his name it ends: the teaching is returned to the tradition as a river to the ocean.
naitad acīrṇa-vrato 'dhīte — "let him who has not performed the vow not read this": the final severity is the same care: a word without a life is not read but merely pronounced; the Muṇḍaka has said all that is needful about itself: it is a bow, and a bow is not given to one who will not take the stance.
namaḥ parama-ṛṣibhyo namaḥ parama-ṛṣibhyaḥ — "homage to the supreme seers! homage to the supreme seers!": a double seal of the ending — and the book's last gesture: a bow. As the Īśa ended with "the fullest word of homage", as the Praśna ended with a bow to the chain of seers, so the Muṇḍaka: knowledge that began with Brahmā the creator, having passed through the bow, the arrow, the two birds and the Light of lights, resolves into thanksgiving to those who carried it. So ends everyone who has arrived: he who has come to know the Truth bows first of all — to the Truth and to those who led him to it.
