译文

“And the slayer of Vritra gave him a bamboo staff, the protector of the good, for the granting of desired things. For the worship of Shakra through that staff, the king, after a year had passed, set it up and performed its planting into the earth. From then on and to this day, O king, the planting of that staff is performed by the best of kings, as it was established by him. And on the following day it is raised up by kings, adorned with fragrances, garlands, and ornaments, wreathed about with garlands, as is proper. And here the lord Shankara is worshiped in a comic form, out of love for Vasu, the great-souled one, through this very offering accepted by the god himself. The great Indra, seeing this auspicious worship performed by Vasu, foremost of kings, spoke, delighted, O lord: ‘Those men and kings who shall honor my festival and shall hold it with joy, as does the king, the lord of Chedi — for them and their kingdoms there shall be prosperity and victory; and thus their land shall become flourishing and joyful.’ Thus was king Vasu, by the great-souled Mahendra, graciously honored out of love. People who shall always hold the festival of Shakra are purified by it — just as they are purified by donations of land and other gifts, by boon-granting great sacrifices, so too are they purified by the festival of Indra. Honored by Indra, Vasu, lord of Chedi, then guarded this earth by dharma, and out of love for Indra performed the festival of Indra. And he had five sons of great might, of immeasurable vigor; the sovereign consecrated his sons over various kingdoms. This renowned great warrior Brihadratha, king of Magadha, and Pratyagraha, and Kushamba, called Manivahana, and Machchhilla, and Yadu, and the unconquered Rajanya. These sons of that royal sage, of great vigor, founded lands and cities by their own names, becoming the founders of separate, everlasting lineages. And while he dwelt in Indra's crystal celestial palace in the sky, gandharvas and apsaras attended that great-souled king; thus his name became renowned — ‘Rajoparichara’ (the one who moves above kings).”
