ते तु दृष्ट्वा पुरं तच् च स्कन्धावारं च पाण्डवाः ॥
कुम्भकारस्य शालायां निवेशं चक्रिरे तदा ॥
तत्र भैक्षं समाजह्रुर् ब्राह्मीं वृत्तिं समाश्रिताः ॥
तांश् च प्राप्तांस् तदा वीराञ् जज्ञिरे न नराः क्व चित् ॥

"Having seen that city and the camp, the Pandavas made their dwelling in a potter's workshop; there they gathered alms, keeping to the brahminical way of life. And nowhere did anyone recognize those heroes who had come."

Here the greatest of heroes take shelter in the humble dwelling of a potter. It is telling how deep their humility runs: kings live in a potter's shed, subsisting on alms, unknown to anyone. True greatness needs no outward splendor: hidden beneath rags, it is not diminished. It is also telling that their being unrecognized keeps them safe. Thus the scripture shows humility concealing strength; and in the potter's workshop lie hidden the future lords of the earth, awaiting their hour.
