इदं सज्यं धनुः कृत्वा सज्येनानेन सायकैः ॥
अतीत्य लक्ष्यं यो वेद्धा स लब्धा मत्सुताम् इति ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
इति स द्रुपदो राजा सर्वतः समघोषयत् ॥
तच् छ्रुत्वा पार्थिवाः सर्वे समीयुस् तत्र भारत ॥

译文
Drupada said: "Having strung this bow, and with it and its arrows, whoever, passing through the device, pierces the target, he shall win my daughter." Vaishampayana continued: Thus King Drupada proclaimed everywhere; and hearing this, all the kings gathered there, O Bharata.

Here the hand of a maiden is set as the reward for prowess and skill. It is telling that neither wealth nor rank but skill alone grants the right to Draupadi: worth is measured by deed, not by birth. The highest prize is won not by claim but by actual excellence. Thus the scripture shows the condition of the svayamvara; and word of it gathers kings from every quarter, drawn both by the maiden's beauty and by the fame of victory.
