Here the maiden steps onto the field, carrying the wreath for the victor. It is significant that in her hands is the golden vessel with the hero's wreath: the prize is in her own hands, and she herself is the highest prize. Here is the image of the bride entering the gathering of suitors: everything converges upon her, and she is free to choose the worthy one. The text thus reveals the moment toward which everything has gathered; and Draupadi, descending onto the arena, becomes the focus of every eye and every hope.
