Here the eldest points to the order of seniority in marriage. It is significant that Yudhishthira reminds him: he, the eldest, must marry first — custom demands that younger brothers not precede the elder in marriage. In this lies reverence for the order that preserves harmony within the family. Thus the text reveals Yudhishthira's fidelity to custom; and his word opens the way to speaking of an unprecedented arrangement of marriage.
