Here fear and malice give birth to a new conspiracy. It is telling that Duryodhana dresses enmity in the guise of self-defense — "that they may not devour us": the wrongdoer always finds a justification for his wrong. Herein lies a lesson: unrighteous fear breeds unrighteous deeds, and envy conceals itself behind supposed necessity. Thus scripture reveals the start of new intrigues; and beneath the words of "counsel" a plot against the innocent takes shape.
