Here the king himself invites his son's counsel toward evil. It is telling that Dhritarashtra does not check the wicked design but instead asks about its means — encouragement of wrong in place of fatherly rebuke. The lesson here: a father indulgent toward a wicked son ruins both him and the lineage. Thus the text reveals the king's connivance; and his question opens the mouth of Duryodhana's treachery.
