Janamejaya said: "Thus having obtained the kingdom in Indraprastha, O rich in austerity, what did the great-souled Pandavas -- all my ancient forefathers -- do after that? And how did Draupadi, the dharma-wife, conduct herself with them? And how did those five lords of men, sharing one Krishna, not fall apart from one another? I wish to hear it all in detail -- their mutual conduct with one another."

The very question here reveals the wonder of an unbroken brotherhood. It is telling that Janamejaya marvels at how the five did not part ways over a single wife: harmony where others would expect discord is itself astonishing. Here we see the truth that the Pandavas' unity was the fruit of their righteousness and of a divine ordering. Thus the scripture shows the importance of the question; and the answer will reveal what preserved their unity.
