गमनाय मतिं चक्रे पितुर् दर्शनलालसः ॥
धर्मराजम् अथामन्त्र्य पृथां च पृथुलोचनः ॥

Vaishampayana said: "Having dwelt happily in Khandavaprastha, Janardana, honored by the loving Parthas, resolved to depart, longing to see his father; and having taken leave of Dharmaraja and Pritha, the wide-eyed one..."

Here the Lord, who had been a guest among His devotees, prepares to set out to see His father. It is significant that Krishna, who lacks nothing, still honors the bonds of kinship and the duty of filial love: descending into a human form, He Himself sets an example of reverence toward elders. Thus scripture shows His departure as a lesson in dharma rather than a mere parting; and He goes on to take leave of each one according to their standing.
