कांश् चिद् अर्थान् नरः प्राज्ञो लघुमूलान् महाफलान् ॥
क्षिप्रम् आरभते कर्तुं न विघ्नयति तादृशान् ॥
ऋजु पश्यति यः सर्वं चक्षुषानुपिबन्न् इव ॥
आसीनम् अपि तूष्णीकम् अनुरज्यन्ति तं प्रजाः ॥
चक्षुषा मनसा वाचा कर्मणा च चतुर्विधम् ॥
प्रसादयति लोकं यः तं लोको ऽनुप्रसीदति ॥
यस्मात् त्रस्यन्ति भूतानि मृगव्याधान् मृगा इव ॥
सागरान्ताम् अपि महीं लब्ध्वा स परिहीयते ॥
पितृपैतामहं राज्यं प्राप्तवान् स्वेन तेजसा ॥
वायुर् अभ्रम् इवासाद्य भ्रंशयत्य् अनये स्थितः ॥
kāṃś cid arthān naraḥ prājño laghumūlān mahāphalān ||
kṣipram ārabhate kartuṃ na vighnayati tādṛśān ||
ṛju paśyati yaḥ sarvaṃ cakṣuṣānupibann iva ||
āsīnam api tūṣṇīkam anurajyanti taṃ prajāḥ ||
cakṣuṣā manasā vācā karmaṇā ca caturvidham ||
prasādayati lokaṃ yaḥ taṃ loko 'nuprasīdati ||
yasmāt trasyanti bhūtāni mṛgavyādhān mṛgā iva ||
sāgarāntām api mahīṃ labdhvā sa parihīyate ||
pitṛpaitāmahaṃ rājyaṃ prāptavān svena tejasā ||
vāyur abhram ivāsādya bhraṃśayaty anaye sthitaḥ ||
He who desires to master his counselors before mastering himself, or to subdue his enemies before mastering his counselors, is in the end defeated, stripped of his power. Therefore, he who first subdues himself, regarding it as his enemy, never fails afterward to subdue his counselors and his adversaries as well. Great prosperity awaits him who has mastered his senses, or restrained his soul, or is able to punish all wrongdoers, or acts with discernment, or is blessed with patience.
