परिवार्य तु तैः सर्वैर् युधि बालो महारथैः ॥
यतमानः परं शक्त्या बहुभिर् विरथीकृतः ॥
ततो दौःशासनिः क्षिप्रं तथा तैर् विरथीकृतम् ॥
संशयं परमं प्राप्य दिष्टान्तेनाभ्ययोजयत् ॥

"Surrounded in battle by all those great chariot-warriors, the boy, striving with all his might, was deprived of his chariot by many. Then the son of Duhshasana swiftly — thus finding him unchariotted by them and plunged into mortal peril — brought him to his fated end."

His death is named with restraint and dread: "diṣṭāntena abhyayojayat", "brought him to his predestined end". The word "diṣṭānta", the fated limit, once more inscribes the crime into the fabric of destiny — not excusing the hand, but pointing to a larger order. First "virathīkṛtaḥ", deprived of his weapon by having his chariot taken by many, and only then finished off by one. It is telling that here too the killing is preceded by lawless despoiling. The verse teaches that evil triumphs not through open strength but by first stripping the victim of every means of defense; and yet its final limit lies in the hand of fate, not in the hand of the wrongdoer.
