एवम् उक्त्वा विचिक्षेप गाण्डीवं सव्यदक्षिणम् ॥
तस्य शब्दम् अतिक्रम्य धनुःशब्दो ऽस्पृशद् दिवम् ॥
अर्जुनेन प्रतिज्ञाते पाञ्चजन्यं जनार्दनः ॥
प्रदध्मौ तत्र संक्रुद्धो देवदत्तं धनंजयः ॥

"Having thus spoken, he raised Gāṇḍīva both left and right, and, surpassing its own ring, the roar of the bow touched the heavens. When Arjuna had given his vow, Janārdana blew into Pāñcajanya, and Dhanañjaya, in wrath, into Devadatta."

The vow is sealed not by a signature but by the sound of weapons: 'dhanuḥśabdaḥ aspṛśat divam,' 'the roar of the bow touched the sky' — Gāṇḍīva itself bears witness to the vow all the way to the heavens. It is telling that Krishna echoes it: 'pāñcajanyaṃ janārdanaḥ pradadhmau' — the Lord blows His own conch, sealing His friend's word with divine assent. Thus the vow of a man receives heaven's own surety. The verse teaches that when righteous resolve is proclaimed, both the righteous man's weapon and the Lord Himself answer it: a will in accord with dharma does not remain alone — all creation takes it up.
