With a great downpour of falling arrows, with the rumble of chariots like a cloud, with arrows released by the draw of the bow, with many lightning-flashes of iron shafts; bearing spears, swords, thunderbolts, risen up by the surge of anger — [there was] the Drona-cloud, irresistible, driven onward by the wind of horses.

The metaphor of the storm again clothes Drona: "droṇamegham anāvāryam," the irresistible Drona-cloud, with arrow-lightnings, driven by "hayamārutacoditam," the wind of horses. It is telling that his might is "anāvārya," irresistible — it seems unconquerable. The verse teaches that even the most terrible force, however seemingly irresistible, meets its equal: one cloud rushes on, but another lies ahead; and what seems unconquerable will find one to meet it, for in the world of dharma no force stands without a counter-force, and storm meets storm.
