घटोत्कचम् अतिक्रम्य बिभेद दशभिः शरैः ॥
घटोत्कचो विनिर्भिन्नः सूतपुत्रेण मर्मसु ॥
चक्रं दिव्यं सहस्रारम् अगृह्णाद् व्यथितो भृशम् ॥
क्षुरान्तं बालसूर्याभं मणिरत्नविभूषितम् ॥
चिक्षेपाधिरथेः क्रुद्धो भैमसेनिर् जिघांसया ॥
tatas te rudhirābhyaktā bhittvā karṇaṃ mahāhave ||
viviśur dharaṇīṃ bāṇāḥ saṃkruddhā iva pannagāḥ ||
sūtaputras tu saṃkruddho laghuhastaḥ pratāpavān ||
ghaṭotkacam atikramya bibheda daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
ghaṭotkaco vinirbhinnaḥ sūtaputreṇa marmasu ||
cakraṃ divyaṃ sahasrāram agṛhṇād vyathito bhṛśam ||
kṣurāntaṃ bālasūryābhaṃ maṇiratnavibhūṣitam ||
cikṣepādhiratheḥ kruddho bhaimasenir jighāṃsayā ||
Then those, spattered with blood, having pierced through Karna in the great battle, entered the earth like enraged serpents. And the son of the suta, enraged, nimble-handed, mighty, having surpassed Ghatotkacha, pierced him with ten arrows. Ghatotkacha, pierced by the son of the suta in his vital spots, seized the divine thousand-spoked disc, sorely tormented — razor-edged, like the young sun, adorned with gems — and, enraged, the son of Bhimasena hurled it at the son of Adhiratha, thirsting to slay him.

Wounded, Ghatotkacha seizes the divine disc: where ordinary weapons fail, the highest is brought into play. It is telling that even the fearsome rakshasa "suffers grievously" — pain spares no one, not even a giant. The verse teaches that none is invulnerable, and suffering levels the great with the small; and one who endures torment yet does not abandon the fight, but reaches for a new and better weapon, shows not insensibility but unbending will above pain.
