सकलद्वीपवासांश् च सप्तद्वीपे च ये नृपाः ॥
अर्जुनस्य च सैन्यानां विग्रहस् तुमुलो ऽभवत् ॥
स तान् अपि महेष्वासो विजित्य भरतर्षभ ॥
तैर् एव सहितः सर्वैः प्राग्ज्योतिषम् उपाद्रवत् ॥
sa tena sahito rājan savyasācī paraṃtapaḥ ||
vijigye sakalaṃ dvīpaṃ prativindhyaṃ ca pārthivam ||
sakaladvīpavāsāṃś ca saptadvīpe ca ye nṛpāḥ ||
arjunasya ca sainyānāṃ vigrahas tumulo 'bhavat ||
sa tān api maheṣvāso vijitya bharatarṣabha ||
tair eva sahitaḥ sarvaiḥ prāgjyotiṣam upādravat ||
He, together with him [Sumandala], O king — Savyasachi, the scourge of foes — conquered the whole island [Sakaladvipa] and king Prativindhya. With the inhabitants of Sakaladvipa and with the kings who were in Saptadvipa, a tumultuous battle broke out among Arjuna's armies. Having conquered them too, the great archer, O bull of the Bharatas, together with all of them rushed upon Pragjyotisha.

With each step Arjuna's army grows through those it has conquered: the defeated march on with him toward new frontiers. It is notable that yesterday's adversaries become tomorrow's force of victory — union, not annihilation, drives the campaign. Thus is shown an order in which all that is subject to dharma gathers together, as rivers into an ocean. The verse teaches that righteous power grows not by the diminishing of the defeated but by their conversion to the shared cause; union multiplies, discord divides.
