सोमेन राज्ञा यद् दत्तं धनुश् चैवेषुधी च ते ॥
तत् प्रयच्छोभयं शीघ्रं रथं च कपिलक्षणम् ॥
कार्यं हि सुमहत् पार्थो गाण्डीवेन करिष्यति ॥
चक्रेण वासुदेवश् च तन् मदर्थे प्रदीयताम् ॥
ददानीत्य् एव वरुणः पावकं प्रत्यभाषत ॥
somena rājñā yad dattaṃ dhanuś caiveṣudhī ca te ||
tat prayacchobhayaṃ śīghraṃ rathaṃ ca kapilakṣaṇam ||
kāryaṃ hi sumahat pārtho gāṇḍīvena kariṣyati ||
cakreṇa vāsudevaś ca tan madarthe pradīyatām ||
dadānīty eva varuṇaḥ pāvakaṃ pratyabhāṣata ||
Agni said: "The bow and the two quivers given to you by King Soma — give both quickly, and the chariot marked with the sign of the monkey; for Partha shall accomplish a mighty deed with Gandiva, and Vasudeva with the discus; let that be given for my sake." "I give it," thus Varuna answered Pavaka.

Here wondrous weapons are handed over for a great undertaking. It is significant that Varuna gives up his cherished treasure without delay: where a righteous purpose is at stake, the gods are unstinting. Instruments of power are entrusted to the worthy for a higher end. Thus the scripture reveals Varuna's generosity; and Gandiva together with the discus are destined for Narayana and Nara.
