ततो ऽश्मवर्षं सुमहद् व्यसृजत् पाकशासनः ॥
भूय एव तदा वीर्यं जिज्ञासुः सव्यसाचिनः ॥
तच् छरैर् अर्जुनो वर्षं प्रतिजघ्ने ऽत्यमर्षणः ॥
विफलं क्रियमाणं तत् संप्रेक्ष्य च शतक्रतुः ॥
भूयः संवर्धयाम् आस तद् वर्षं देवराड् अथ ॥
सो ऽश्मवर्षं महावेगैर् इषुभिः पाकशासनिः ॥
विलयं गमयाम् आस हर्षयन् पितरं तदा ॥
tato 'śmavarṣaṃ sumahad vyasṛjat pākaśāsanaḥ ||
bhūya eva tadā vīryaṃ jijñāsuḥ savyasācinaḥ ||
tac charair arjuno varṣaṃ pratijaghne 'tyamarṣaṇaḥ ||
viphalaṃ kriyamāṇaṃ tat saṃprekṣya ca śatakratuḥ ||
bhūyaḥ saṃvardhayām āsa tad varṣaṃ devarāḍ atha ||
so 'śmavarṣaṃ mahāvegair iṣubhiḥ pākaśāsaniḥ ||
vilayaṃ gamayām āsa harṣayan pitaraṃ tadā ||
Then Pakashasana [Indra] poured forth a great rain of stones, once more wishing to test the valor of Savyasachin; that rain Arjuna, exceedingly wrathful, warded off with arrows. Seeing that rain becoming futile, Shatakratu, the king of the gods, once more intensified it; that rain of stones the son of Pakashasana [Arjuna] reduced to nothing with swift arrows, delighting his father then.

Here a father tests his son, and the son delights his father. Telling is it that Indra, Arjuna's father, "tests the valor" of his son, while the son, warding off the blows, "delights his father": the trial turns into joy. Even this confrontation of two who love each other is filled with love. Thus the text shows Indra's fatherly pride; and Arjuna, repelling the blows, only multiplies his father's joy.
