Here even a neglectful father remembers his children in the hour of danger. It is telling that Mandapala, who had earlier abandoned his sons, now cares for their deliverance: peril awakens a love that had lain dormant. Here it becomes clear that in extremity a person turns to God [Agni] for the sake of a child. So the scripture reveals a father's fear; and by praise he will seek protection for his sons.
