Mandapala said: "You, Agni, are the mouth of all the gods; you are the bearer of oblations; you move within all beings, hidden, O Pavaka; the seers call you one, and yet they call you threefold; having fashioned you eightfold, they made you the bearer of sacrifice."

Here Agni is glorified as the one hidden within all that exists. It is telling in the phrase "you move within all beings, hidden" -- a single fiery spirit dwells in all things. Here shines a reflection of the truth of the one principle immanent in creation; behind Agni's many forms one Lord who animates everything can be discerned. So the scripture reveals Agni's greatness; and the praise ascends to the One made manifest in many forms.
