लोकोपक्रोशभीरुत्वाद् धर्मराजो महायशाः ॥
अचिन्तयन् महाबाहुः शैनेयस्य रथं प्रति ॥
पदवीं प्रेषितश् चैव फल्गुनस्य मया रणे ॥
शैनेयः सात्यकिः सत्यो मित्राणाम् अभयंकरः ॥
तद् इदं ह्य् एकम् एवासीद् द्विधा जातं ममाद्य वै ॥
सात्यकिश् च हि मे ज्ञेयः पाण्डवश् च धनंजयः ॥
सात्यकिं प्रेषयित्वा तु पाण्डवस्य पदानुगम् ॥
सात्वतस्यापि कं युद्धे प्रेषयिष्ये पदानुगम् ॥
lokopakrośabhīrutvād dharmarājo mahāyaśāḥ ||
acintayan mahābāhuḥ śaineyasya rathaṃ prati ||
padavīṃ preṣitaś caiva phalgunasya mayā raṇe ||
śaineyaḥ sātyakiḥ satyo mitrāṇām abhayaṃkaraḥ ||
tad idaṃ hy ekam evāsīd dvidhā jātaṃ mamādya vai ||
sātyakiś ca hi me jñeyaḥ pāṇḍavaś ca dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
sātyakiṃ preṣayitvā tu pāṇḍavasya padānugam ||
sātvatasyāpi kaṃ yuddhe preṣayiṣye padānugam ||
Out of fear of the world's censure, the greatly renowned King of Dharma, the mighty-armed one, pondered on the chariot of Shaineya: "Along the trail of Phalguna I sent, in this battle, Shaineya Satyaki, the true one, who grants fearlessness to friends. That was but one concern, and now it has become twofold for me: for I must care both for Satyaki and for the Pandava Dhananjaya."

One care has become two: "ekam eva… dvidhā jātam" — having sent one to guard the other, the king must now guard both. It is telling that love multiplies cares rather than dividing them. The verse teaches that concern for those we hold dear grows rather than diminishing: whoever sent a friend to protect a brother now cares for both, for a loving heart does not cease to be troubled for anyone it has entrusted to danger.
