संजय उवाच
तं तथावादिनं तत्र राजानं माधवो ऽब्रवीत् ॥
एवंवृत्तं सदा क्षत्रं यद् धन्तीह गुरून् अपि ॥
यदि ते ऽहं प्रियो राजञ् जहि मां मा चिरं कृथाः ॥
त्वत्कृते सुकृतांल् लोकान् गच्छेयं भरतर्षभ ॥
या ते शक्तिर् बलं चैव तत् क्षिप्रं मयि दर्शय ॥
नेच्छाम्य् एतद् अहं द्रष्टुं मित्राणां व्यसनं महत् ॥
इत्य् एवं व्यक्तम् आभाष्य प्रतिभाष्य च सात्यकिः ॥
अभ्ययात् तूर्णम् अव्यग्रो निरपेक्षो विशां पते ॥

yadi te 'haṃ priyo rājañ jahi māṃ mā ciraṃ kṛthāḥ ||
tvatkṛte sukṛtāṃl lokān gaccheyaṃ bharatarṣabha ||
yā te śaktir balaṃ caiva tat kṣipraṃ mayi darśaya ||
necchāmy etad ahaṃ draṣṭuṃ mitrāṇāṃ vyasanaṃ mahat ||
ity evaṃ vyaktam ābhāṣya pratibhāṣya ca sātyakiḥ ||
abhyayāt tūrṇam avyagro nirapekṣo viśāṃ pate ||
To him, thus speaking there, Madhava [Satyaki] said to the king: 'Such is the kshatriya [duty] always — that it strikes down even teachers. If I am dear to you, O king, kill me, do not delay; for your sake — to the blessed worlds I would go, O bull among the Bharatas. Whatever strength and might is yours — show it swiftly upon me; I do not wish to see the great calamity of friends.' Having spoken thus clearly, and having replied, Satyaki attacked swiftly, unperturbed, heedless, O lord of peoples.

Satyaki answers Duryodhana's longing with the stern truth of a kshatriya: duty strikes down even teachers. His 'kill me, do not delay' is telling — he would sooner accept death from a friend than watch the ruin of those dear to him. The verse teaches that a kshatriya's duty is merciless toward attachments; and true friendship shows itself here not in mercy but in readiness to fall oneself — only to avoid witnessing the suffering of the beloved.
