नीयं पुरा स्य स्पर्ध्यास्तसंवृतम्
भूमाव् द्य थं शेषे विप्रविद्धः सुखोचितः
यो ऽन्वास्य पुरा वीरो स्त्रीभिर् हाभुजः
थम् न्वास्यते सो ऽद्य शिवाभिः तितो मृधे
यो ऽस्तू पुरा हृष्टैः सूमान्दिभिः
सो ऽद्य क्रव्याद्गणैर् घोरैर् विद्भिर् पास्यते

katham anvāsyate so 'dya śibhiḥ patito mṛdhe ||
yo 'stūyata pu hṛṣṭaiḥ tagadhabandibhiḥ ||
so 'dya kravyādgaṇair ghorair vinadadbhir usyate ||

विप्रविद्धः सुखोचितःvipraviddhaḥ sukhocitaḥstretched out, accustomed to comfort; sprawled, accustomed to ease
यः अन्वास्यत पुरा वीरःyaḥ anvāsyata purā vīraḥwhom once care [attended], hero; whom of old they attended
वरस्त्रीभिः महाभुजःvarastrībhiḥ mahābhujaḥwith the fairest wives, mighty-armed; fair wives, the mighty-armed one
कथम् अन्वास्यते सः अद्यkatham anvāsyate saḥ adyahow is he surrounded now; how is he encircled now
शिवाभिः पतितः मृधेśivābhiḥ patitaḥ mṛdheby she-jackals, fallen in battle; by she-jackals, fallen in combat
यः अस्तूयत पुरा हृष्टैःyaḥ astūyata purā hṛṣṭaiḥwhom once the joyful praised; whom of old the joyful glorified
सूतमागधबन्दिभिःsūtamāgadhabandibhiḥbards, magadhas and heralds; sutas, magadhas, heralds
सः अद्य क्रव्याद्गणैः घोरैःsaḥ adya kravyādgaṇaiḥ ghoraiḥhe now [is attended] by dread hosts of flesh-eaters; he now by dread packs of predators
विनदद्भिः उपास्यतेvinadadbhiḥ upāsyateis attended by howling [creatures, surrounded]; is surrounded by howling ones
अनुवाद

"Whose bed once was spread with priceless coverings — how now do you lie upon the ground, sprawled, accustomed to ease? Whom once, the mighty-armed hero, the fairest wives attended — how is he now, fallen in battle, encircled by she-jackals? Whom of old the joyful bards, magadhas and heralds glorified — he now is surrounded by dread howling packs of flesh-eaters."
