देवनागरी
एवं विलपतीं दीनां सुभद्रां शोककर्शिताम् ॥
अभ्यपद्यत पाञ्चाली वैराटीसहिता तदा ॥
ताः प्रकामं रुदित्वा च विलप्य च सुदुःखिताः ॥
उन्मत्तवत् तदा राजन् विसंज्ञा न्यपतन् क्षितौ ॥

अनुवाद
To Subhadra thus lamenting, grief-stricken, wasted by sorrow, Panchali then drew near, together with the daughter of Virata. They, having wept and lamented to their heart's content, deeply grief-stricken, then, o king, fell senseless to the ground as if mad.

Grief gathers the women of the family together: Draupadi and the young widow Uttara come to Subhadra. And together, "prakāmaṃ ruditvā… visaṃjñāḥ nyapatan," having wept their fill, they fall senseless to the ground. It is telling that shared weeping is not thereby lessened but for a time overwhelms: the common sorrow washes away consciousness itself. The verse teaches that grief seeks companionship — those who are close gather to weep together; and that there is a measure of sorrow beneath which consciousness itself gives way, before the comforting hand arrives.
