सो ऽसौ पार्थो व्यतिक्रान्तो मिषतस् ते महाद्युते ॥
सर्वं ह्य् अद्यातुरं मन्ये नैतद् अस्ति बलं मम ॥
जानामि त्वां महाभाग पाण्डवानां हिते रतम् ॥
तथा मुह्यामि च ब्रह्मन् कार्यवत्तां विचिन्तयन् ॥
यथाशक्ति च ते ब्रह्मन् वर्तये वृत्तिम् उत्तमाम् ॥
प्रीणामि च यथाशक्ति तच् च त्वं नावबुध्यसे ॥

so 'sau pārtho vyatikrānto miṣatas te mahādyute ||
sarvaṃ hy adyāturaṃ manye naitad asti balaṃ mama ||
jānāmi tvāṃ mahābhāga pāṇḍavānāṃ hite ratam ||
tathā muhyāmi ca brahman kāryavattāṃ vicintayan ||
yathāśakti ca te brahman vartaye vṛttim uttamām ||
prīṇāmi ca yathāśakti tac ca tvaṃ nāvabudhyase ||

शब्दशः अर्थ
संस्कृतIASTअर्थ
सः असौ पार्थः व्यतिक्रान्तःsaḥ asau pārthaḥ vyatikrāntaḥthat very Partha has passed by; that same Partha has passed
मिषतः ते महाद्युतेmiṣataḥ te mahādyutebefore your eyes, O greatly radiant one; before your eyes, O resplendent one
सर्वम् हि अद्य आतुरम् मन्येsarvam hi adya āturam manyefor I now consider everything ruined; for I now deem everything doomed
न एतत् अस्ति बलम् ममna etat asti balam mamathis army of mine no longer exists; no more is there this army of mine
जानामि त्वाम् महाभागjānāmi tvām mahābhāgaI know you, O most blessed one; I know you, O worthy one
पाण्डवानाम् हिते रतम्pāṇḍavānām hite ratamdevoted to the welfare of the Pandavas; caring for the welfare of the Pandavas
तथा मुह्यामि च ब्रह्मन्tathā muhyāmi ca brahmanand so I am in confusion, O brahmin; and so in confusion, O brahmin
कार्यवत्ताम् विचिन्तयन्kāryavattām vicintayanpondering the urgency of the task; musing on the urgency of the task
यथाशक्ति च ते ब्रह्मन्yathāśakti ca te brahmanand according to my ability to you, O brahmin; and according to my power to you, O brahmin
वर्तये वृत्तिम् उत्तमाम्vartaye vṛttim uttamāmI show the utmost regard [honor]; I show the highest honor
प्रीणामि च यथाशक्तिprīṇāmi ca yathāśaktiand I please you as best I can; and I please you according to my power
तत् च त्वम् न अवबुध्यसेtat ca tvam na avabudhyaseand that you do not perceive; and that you do not perceive
अनुवाद

"That same Partha has passed by before your eyes, O greatly radiant one; for I now consider everything ruined — this army of mine no longer exists. I know you, O most blessed one, to be devoted to the welfare of the Pandavas; and so I am in confusion, O brahmin, pondering the urgency of the task. And according to my ability, O brahmin, I show you the utmost honor and please you as best I can, and that you do not perceive."
