सो ऽब्रवीत् स्वागतं देवा ब्रूत किं करवाण्य् अहम् ॥
अमोघं दर्शनं मह्यं कामप्राप्तिर् अतो ऽस्तु वः ॥
एवम् उक्तास् तु ते सर्वे प्रत्यूचुस् तं दिवौकसः ॥
तेजो हृतं नो वृत्रेण गतिर् भव दिवौकसाम् ॥
मूर्तीर् ईक्षष्व नो देव प्रहारैर् जर्जरीकृताः ॥
शरणं त्वां प्रपन्नाः स्म गतिर् भव महेश्वर ॥

amoghaṃ darśanaṃ mahyaṃ kāmaprāptir ato 'stu vaḥ ||

tejo hṛtaṃ no vṛtreṇa gatir bhava divaukasām ||
mūrtīr īkṣaṣva no deva prahārair jarjarīkṛtāḥ ||

अनुवाद

He said: "Welcome, gods; tell me what I should do. The sight of me is not fruitless — may your desire be fulfilled from this." Hearing this, all the celestials answered him: "Our splendor has been stolen by Vritra; be the refuge of the celestials. Behold our bodies, O god, mangled by blows; we have taken refuge in you — be our refuge, O Maheshvara."

भाष्य

Twice the words 'śaraṇaṃ… gatiḥ bhava', 'be my refuge', resound: the prayer of the gods to Shiva is a model of sharanagati, surrender to the Supreme. And Shiva meets them with grace even before the request: 'amoghaṃ darśanaṃ mahyam', 'the sight of me is not fruitless.' It is telling that the very vision of God already carries the fulfillment of need. The verse teaches that turning to the highest refuge never remains fruitless: even the sight of the Lord is already a gift; and one who surrenders, taking refuge in Him as gati, receives not only protection but the very meeting itself, which is 'amogha' — never in vain.
